OVERTURE

In a fairy tale forest, a breeze is gently playing with branches of blue trees as the rising sun shines through them. It ripples the surface of a turquoise tarn in which smiling green-blue clouds find their reflections. Here and there playful forest animals can be seen wandering around the blue forest. Little blue hares are chasing around a giant red toadstool, not realizing they are being watched by a fox that is salivating to the vision of tasty rabbit. A herd of deer drinking water at the turquoise tarn is also targeted by a wolf hiding behind a tree. The fox ventures forth with an attack and tries to catch one of the hares. The wolf too jumps out from behind the bushes, not even giving the deer time to get scared. The tranquility of daily life in the forest suddenly changes into a run for their lives. The hunted animals seek a path to safety and disperse in all directions, hiding behind trees and bushed trying to save their lives.

RED BEAR AND YELLOW-PURPLE HEDGEHOGS / I. EDIT

French horn has sounded and the red bear – protector and guardian of the forest – enters the scene. His majestic entrance brings all the forest animals at attention, even the fox and the wolf stand with tails between their legs. A dominating bassoon melody leads the red bear into dance. Under his strict baton, even the fox with the hares and the wolf with the deer make peace in mutual dance. Melodies of black wooden wind instruments also get hedgehogs – the doctors and caretakers of the forest – to dance. Gradually, they are joined by all the other animals. Dancing and jointly playing the wind instruments, they celebrate a peaceful life in the blue forest.

THE BLUE FOREST

Dark clouds cover the sky, sending down gloomy rain drops as strong lightning and thunder pierce the air. Evil green goblins are entering the blue forest. Their fingertips shoot fiery bolts, setting the blue trees on fire, polluting the turquoise tarn and hurting the forest animals. Trembling with fear the hares, deer, fox and the wolf seek refuge from the evil goblins. The grey sky and spreading darkness anger the red bear and yellow-purple hedgehogs. Hiding in a cave, they confer on how to defeat the evil and expel it out of the forest. As soon as they come up with a plan, the red bear slowly approaches an unsuspecting goblin nibbling on a tree, roars at him and shoves him into the hedgehogs, who pierce him with their spinous backs. With joint forces the animals gradually push the green goblins out of the blue forest. After the victory, however, they weep at the destroyed forest.

YELLOW RIVER

Tranquil rays of water coming from the river in the sky calm down the battle atmosphere. Exhausted and thirsty animals drink from the holy river, which replenishes their energy. The yellow-purple hedgehogs, as doctors of the forest, use their clever arboreal skills to heal the trees from their heavy wounds.

GREEN SKY AND RED DOUBLE-SUN

Forest fairies dance towards the red bear. They encircle him in a dance and one of them hands him a wedding gown while another offers a wedding ring. As the forest fairies dance away, the red bear wonders how he deserved these. The yellow-purple hedgehogs, however, know what is going to follow. A red she-bear dances into the scene, accompanied by forest fairies. The red bear understands what is happening when one of the hedgehogs dressed in a black robe approaches the wedding couple. The red bear embraces the shebear with the wedding cloak, kneeling in front of her and asking her hand. The hedgehog reads aloud the wedding vows, the red bear puts the ring on the bride’s finger and kisses her as they join together in a wedding dance. So the fairy tale ends.
